It's time to go Under the Current
introducing a podcast series surfacing the real stories of creatives and entrepreneurs
Hello there. In a brief break from scheduled programming, here’s a quick note about a new project I’m excited to share with you.
Over the last year or so I’ve found myself frustrated with podcasts focused on entrepreneurship and creative careers.
Listening to the tale of another billion dollar startup founder had its moments, but too often it felt out of reach and difficult to relate to.
And podcasts with industry experts offered plenty of tactics to try - yet there wasn’t much texture behind the tips.
Going under the surface just wasn’t part of the brief.
I found myself seeking something more - and I knew others felt the same.
When it comes to doing anything creative, entrepreneurial, new or different, there are many questions that come up:
Am I really capable of putting this out in the world?
What if it doesn’t work?
How do I balance a personal brand with a private life?
And what if I get left behind?
This year, I know a lot of us have been wrangling with these kinds of questions.
So, to try and shed some light, I’m taking a trip beneath the surface.
“Under the Current” is a long-form podcast that aims to tell the real stories behind the life and work of creative people coming at things in unconventional ways.
The first 3 episodes are now live:
Joey Cofone, co-founder of Baron Fig, has led a pretty extraordinary life. In this episode we talk about the mirage of failure, recognising the spectrum of what’s truly difficult, and alternative approaches to rebranding
Fashion designer Luciana Rozenberg comes from a family of architects in the north of Argentina. We talk balancing form and function; the impact of older women on her career; going from prototypes to products; and why big cities matter
You can’t pin down Dave Clarke as just another dance music DJ and producer. He plays techno like a hiphop DJ; collaborates with internationally-renowned orchestras; and eschews trends in an industry that has a new flavor of the month almost every week. We get into what punk represents; building long-lasting relationships; and what the future looks like for new artists in the electronic music scene
I hope you get a chance to check them out. You can subscribe wherever you get your podcasts.
New episodes will be dropping each week. Upcoming guests include:
the former executive producer of The Daily Show (recording today. yes, I’m nervous!)
the first person of colour to run the Arts Council of Princeton
one of the world’s leading voices on the creator economy and the new wave of fandoms
Regular ‘Adventures…’ programming will resume on the first Thursday in January.
Here’s to 2021 bringing something better.
Until then, be well - and as always, thanks for reading.
